Willow Ufgood

Just a little fun fact for you:

One of my favourite movies growing up was Willow. The lead character who played Willow is Warwick Davies.

He first played Wicket – the lead Ewok – in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi?

Yes, inside that cute little Ewok suit was Warwick. At the time of filming he was 2’11” tall and only 11 years old. He also landed two TV spin-offs playing the Ewok. Funnily enough, he scored the lead role of Willow which was written by George Lucas, who wrote all of the Star Wars movies! (He makes a small appearance in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace in 1999. Twice).

He was a father of 2 young children in Willow, even though he was only 18 years old during the time of filming (and how cute were those kids)! He met his future wife on the set of the movie, she played an extra.

Fast forward to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in 2005, and you’ll surely remember the robot ‘Marvin’. He may have been voiced by Alan Rickman, but guess who was inside? Yep. Warwick.

He and Alan coincidentally BOTH play Hogwarts teachers in the Harry Potter movies. Warwick is Professor Flitwick! I know!!

Just to tick every major fantasy/sci-fi movie box, he also starred in Narnia: Prince Caspian in ’08.

This guy is a legend.

Splendour season is upon us.

The timetable has been highlighted. The sleeping bags have been thrust out of hibernation. The winter warmers getting packed.

My day-by-day band run will be:

Violent Soho – Brissy band who got their girlfriend stolen by Jesus. Way harsh.

Dan Sultan – who was so pissed at the Astra Awards he had to pike minutes before. Let him rock now!

School of Seven Bells – from NY with hot twin girls in the band. Why not?

British India – seen this Melbourne band plenty of times and they always get me fist pumping dammit. My fav song, dance included ‘Tie up my hands’

Washington – Megan’s debut album will bereleased on the first day of the festival – she’s sure to be good. Looking forward to ‘Clementine’

Yeasayer – Brooklyn band with an interesting sound. Think experimental rock/psychedelic pop. Or instead of actually having to think, just click below on their song (warning – there is a little nudity :s)

Little Red – Brissie boys bringing back the 50’s poppy harmonies. Watch for Taka on the drums, he makes me smile. Be sure to have your bottle of ‘Ice Cold Cola’ on stand by –

Sally Seltmann – loved her as New Buffalo, she’s got an angelic voice. Replaced The Midde East who pulled out (-5 points). Her song below ‘Cheer me up’ was when she was New Buffalo. Such a beautiful song, I wouldn’t be disappointed if you had this song on repeat. Forever.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – first time I’m seeing this San Fran band even though they established more than a decade ago. I don’t even care that they were on the New Moon soundtrack. Just bring it.

Hot Chip – Will be watching them ‘support’ LCD Soundsystem the Monday before Splendour. Gotta love a double dose. ‘Over & Over was actually my song of last years Splendour, so I’m pretty pumped I get to actually see it live :D

A & J Stone – Good to shift back into cruise control with these Northern Beach siblings

LCD Soundsystem – hoping frontman James Murphey will dedicate ‘Drunk Girls’ to me. Rumoured to be the last time they play. Ever.

Scissor Scissors – Why the eff not? Film clip not for the dainty

Jonathan Boulet – seen him recently, LOVE the way these boys use percussion = great noise. This is just a community service announcement –

Band of Skulls – first time this UK trio has hit Aus, SO EXCITED! Their album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, is one of my faves of 2010

A song I’m really looking forward to see from these guys is Honest

… and Impossible

Oh Mercy – From Melb. Worth watching for the cool chickie bassist who oozes chic rock class. Below = Get You Back

Two Door Cinema Club – First timers with this band too. I promise I will go OFF to these guys. A real life promise. And no, I didn’t know Ronald Weasley was a singer in this band either. Listen to Undercover Martyn –

John Steele Singers – More brissie kids! The last time I saw these guys they had peeps dancing on the stage with horse heads. Yes. This song ‘Rainbox Kraut’ is a 10/10 song. Gets stuck in my head for all the right reasons.

Philly Jays – Love the way this Sydney trio play live. Poor things have just been O/S touring, fingers crossed they’ve still got their punch. Let me introduce to you Berkfinger and MC Bad Genius. Watch ‘Going to the Casino’ and spot Dan Williams on the drums. He was in the band before he left them for Art vs Science. Snap.

Delphic – First timer to this band too, a handful of songs I will be jumping repeatedly up and down to Counterpoint

Operator Please – YEEAAAHHH BOI!! Just of their latest album ‘Gloves’ tour, these guys don’t just bring it, they ARE it. The whole band are babes. It’s logic.

Bluejuice –  Always please me when they play. Fingers crossed for more yellow body suit action. Vitriol is a bloody funny clip

Magic Numbers – My brother’s second favourite band on this list after Cloud Control. Excited to find out why. This song ‘I see you, you see me’ is so darn cute. J adore.

Laura Marling – Who I just found out is dating the lead singer of Mumford & Sons! Aw too cute. Play Ghosts to make me happy.

Art V Science – 3 words. MAGIC. EFFING. FOUNTAIN

Florence & machine – I’m getting a tad over this 2-note wonder, but am interested to see her perform live. Not interested remotely in You Got the Love. Will stick to Dog Days are Over thanks.

Band of horses – Been abusing their songs on my ipod for years. First time I’m going to see them. Hold me. Song I’m looking forward to is General Specific

STROKES – hell to the yeahhhhhhh every song is a hit!

Boy & Bear – uber cute local kids, they’re only going to get bigger! What a freak out I had when I watched this clip – the main guy in it is the first boy who taught me how to use my heart. Small world.

The Mess Hall – make great noise for just 2 peeps. They love cowbell as much as me = win.

Cloud Control – These Blue Mountain kids are EPIC. You can’t NOT like their music. But you CAN not like their keyboardist. Don’t know what it is about her, but she annoys the hell out of me. Stop smiling so much.

Miike Snow – His songs are so darn catchy. He does them so well! Really looking forward to Animals and Black & Blue

Whitley – He keeps threatening to pack up and leave to go overseas traveling. I believe him, and will watch him with the constant thought this is the last time. Looking forward to Head First Down

The Vines – just because my boyfriend froths. Hard. Am expected to be front & centre for this. Eep.

Passion Pit – 3rd time I’ve seen them this year alone, but will not be sick of them.

Mumford & Sons – Haven’t seen them yet! Can’t wait to tick this box.

So there it is!

Will write back with how it all went. Wish me luck.

Maude Games

I have a formspring account where anyone can ask me any question. Quite a few are gaming questions, so I’ve decided to compile them all right here for an easier understanding of my passion.

Q: What console has the best/worst controllers?

It’s difficult going between Xbox controllers to the classic Nintendo Wii controller because the main button is positioned differently. So when trying to adjust, you spend a lot of time cancelling out of things you’re wanting to accept.

Q: Favourite mario kart item/weapon?

In Mario Kart Wii it’s the rocket. I purposely come last so I can wipe everyone else out while being thrust comfortably into first position. In MK64 – the star (just for the music)

Q: What are your Toons on WoW? I play Horde on Barthilas. Used to play Alliance but came to really admire the Horde. You learn quite a bit about racism and tolerance by the way people play the game I’ve found.

Hahaha I’d believe that. I was a Night Elf – I haven’t played in years. My character will forever be lvl 49 which makes for great games in Worsung Gulch etc. I started up every single race and played to lvl 10 to see which one I liked the most

Q: What’s your longest gaming marathon? xox

In one sitting? Probably when I was playing World of Warcraft – I would have clocked a 17 hour day in there a few times. Pokemon and Zelda usually ensure a damn long marathon of playing.

Q: Leeroy Jenkins

= the man

Q: Why is Ocarina of Time the best game EVAR?

musical composition, link, revolutionary for 1996, Epona. Nuff said.

Q: Why is madden the greatest video game of all time?

…it isn’t.

Q: Ever play runescape? if you did how good were u?

I wish I did!! It sounds epic! But in that stage of my life i was more into the Sims and Heroes of Might and Magic

- Q: i used to play runescape. trust me, it’s uber-stupid. don’t go near it.

How can you go wrong with medieval? How tragic. Let’s focus on the new KOTOR MMO coming out then yes?

Q: Most frustrating game?

Any game that doesn’t respond 100% with the controllers or has a delay. Worst ever.

Q: Is a ps4 coming out soon?

They’re too busy still pimping out the PS3

Q: Maude, what’s your Monster Hunter 3 Name/ID?

I think it’s just Maude….so original!

Q: What did you think of YourShape Fitness on XBox Kinect? Would it be viable for someone who doesn’t really work out that much?

There are so many exercise games that are great to play – and work! Motivation is your biggest key here, you really have to commit some time every day into the game. Most of the exercising games are on the Wii because of the motion sensors (if you have a Wii you want to try games like EA:Active, Wii Fit Plus – both of these are compatible with the Wii Balance Board) and Your Shape – the first one). I’m glad Xbox finally has caught on that fitness games are ideal since you can work out in the comfort of our own home. Kinect seems to really work well and you have the freedom of exercise without any controllers to worry about. I say GO FOR IT! You can go as hard as you want, or gradually build up how long you go for. But essentially motivation is what will get you fit and active, you have to really want it! Good luck

Q: If you are such a gamer why weren’t you at E3?

I had work here! Also I don’t work for one company, so i wasn’t sent over. If I wanted to go I’d have to pay for flights and accom. Luckily the streams were more than sufficient

Q: At e3 any Playstation news

PS3 are really pushing the features of their console. It allows users to rent/purchase movies, watch TV, listen to hundreds of music tracks, play 3D games, watch 3D movies, upload individually made levels into particular games, free online functionality and the new Playstation Move. Bascially, they’re trying to be better than all the best parts of the other competing consoles. As far as games go, new CoD, LittleBigPlanet 2 etc are on the cards

Q: Have you ever used cheat codes?

I use walkthroughs when I’m beyond stuck, and I feel like I’m cheating when I use them.

Q: Are you any good at fifa 10? i really need some friends to play with online haha.

I’m not really into realistic sporting games. I’ve played FIFA 10 and I wasn’t too bad at it! But I’m online more for Monster Hunter 3

Q: So you’re a gamer girl I see? I know the last 14 hr flight I was on, the in-flight games were what got me through haha.

Yes I’m out of the closet as a gamer. Been playing since I was 7 and have decided to turn this hobby into work! Writing for Dolly and doing stuff for Nintendo – pretty cool. Keep gaming!

Q: I still play myspace mobsters even though I live in faceyland. Do you play any social networking app/s?

I put a lot of hours into Castle Age on facebook. But the gameplay wears out when the repetitiveness kicks in. I’ve just downloaded retro Prince of Persia and Where’s Wally on my iPhone

Q: if you told someone you were the ultimate mario kart player and they beat you, would you accept defeat or challenge them to another game until you won?

I’m clearly not ultimate then, am I? I’d definitely keep challenging them. Beginners luck is my weakness

Q: Who is your favourite gaming character?

Zelda. But it’s different to who I choose when playing games. I play Rosalina on Mario Kart Wii, Samus on Smash Bros etc etc..

Q: What difficulty level did you play Mass Effect on?

I’ve only done the first planet! I’m so lost. I’m on normal

- Q: You need to finish it! It is an amazing game, ME2 is as well. Look at a walkthrough, perhaps?

The planet layouts are so confusing!! But yes, walkthrough will have to come out on this occasion. Best part is I have ME2 all ready to go as soon as I finish the first!

Q: What would your ultimate game involve?

It’d be an MMORPG – either fantasy or sci-fi Star Wars. Think either swords, elves and defending castle attacks, or the force, eternal struggle and epic sabre battles. For more, just look up geek.com/couldigetanygeekier

Q: How is MH Tri going?

about 30 hours and am getting up to some REALLY tough monsters. I just need to beat the Barroth so I can move up to 4 star hunts! AUGH!

Q: If you could become a fictional character who would it be?

hmmm can I say Hermione Granger? Mind you, she’s a bit of a pompous know-it-all sometimes… hmmm. I’d say Sookie Stackhouse but she gets beaten up so much. Wait! I know! Princess Zelda.

Q: I can’t resist adaptations of the old classics, like New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart DS, Yoshi’s Island. I’m also a puzzle addict too, loving Sudoku and Picross. But I’m looking for more action/strategy based games to try now :)

You tried Mario Party DS then? And if you’re after strategy – get Professor Llayton and Pandora’s Box. You’ll cry.

Q: Firstly, you’re awesome. (Love reading your blogs, website and Twitter!) Secondly, I am a mad DSi addict, but am starting to clock all my games. So I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to any awesome games I absolutely must have? :)

Firstly – ta! Secondly – yes I can recommend some games. I have no idea what you’re into and what you’ve already played BUT the essentials are:

* all the pokemons. you cannot pretend you got over this phase, it is still awesome and you can easily clock 30 hours of it

* GTA: Chinatown wars. If you’re younger than 15, step away from this. But if not you’ll love every second. Not too much drama playing it on the DSi and the birds-eye view is optimal.

* Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. I’ve loved everything Zelda for so long, and these do not disappoint. They are far more strategy-based than action which can be both exciting and frustrating. Again, get quite a few hours in on this.

Lastly – get the Final Fantasies. I love my RPG’s and these are pretty cool on the DSi. They play a hell of a lot different from the ones on Playstation and although the fight sequences can get dull time after time, the cut scenes and characters are worth it.

Does this help?

Q: Video games, favorite ?

At the moment I’m loving Dragon Age and Mass Effect on Xbox, Spirit Tracks on DS, and Monster Hunter Tri on Wii. Classics include Ocarina of Time and WoW. Ha!

Have a question? I’d love to hear it! Comment below or head to my formspring page http://www.formspring.me/maudegarrett

Happy Gaming!

I’ve put my controller down the last 2 days to watch season 2 of True Blood.

As mentioned earlier, I’ve read the books so watching the series was next on my to-do list.

It’s very, very easy to watch this show hours on end.

I adore Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, I really think she nailed the character and does a swell job at it.

Bill the Vampire is…well…slightly dull. He’s making the same rookie errors that Edward Cullen did – STOP BEING SO DAMN OVERPROTECTIVE! When your main focus is always looking out for the one you love and taking away any risk for fear of them hurting themselves – you turn into an A grade dud. Where’s the excitement? The fun? The sense of humour! Everything is serious, restrictive and LAME. Fair enough that Stephen Moyer (awfully close name to Stefanie Meyer?!) who plays Bill Compton is doing his job at being a sod. But he’s doing it too well, and now the character is unlikeable. I like to laugh, but the only time I find myself laughing is when he says ‘Sookie’. Only problem, it’s not supposed to be funny. So move over, Bill. Move over brooding vamps that have such a strong possessiveness over their loved ones. Hello Eric Northman.

In the books he was incredible. He’s this incredibly tall, insensitive, cocky, authoritative hunk of sexy. The way author Charlaine Harris wrote his character left every female reader thirsty for more (pun intended). So when I first saw Alexander Skarsgard as Eric, I was somewhat disappointed. Yes, he was tall and had long blonde hair. Yes, he  had an aura of authority. But did I think he was as sexy as the book made him out to be? Nup. Then I kept watching. I’m glad I did. He cut his hair and wore more singlets. He had more of a role and you got to see him divulge into his character. He even, at one point, made me laugh. Not a chuckle, a solid cackle. Bingo! Alexander, you are the new Robert Pattinsen. So after a little online snooping, not only did I discover he’s dating Kate Bosworth (she seriously always get the hotties) and he was in Zoolander! Gold!

Characters to watch – Hoyt Fortenberry. I’m so relieved he has more of a role in the series than in the books. This guy is just so darn nice! He’s the kind of guy you find yourself going mushy over because he’s so sweet and gentlemanly. Pity about his psychotic, overbearing mother.

Ones to forget – Tara Thorton. She is annoying. She needs to stop talking. She is a hater. She puts words in peoples mouths. She has muscles so ripped I’m scared she could knock out my teeth if she read this. She didn’t have this role in the books and it was better that way! And don’t even START me on her deranged mother – every time that woman opens her mouth (usually to cry) I want to end it.

So now one has to ask… ‘Bella who?’

There are many photo bombing sites out there, with many photos posted up (namely thisisphotobomb.com). With so many sites and photos, the meaning of the ‘photo bomb’ is getting lost. Here is the low down on all the different types, and to clearly show what is – and isn’t – a proper photo bomb.

The Intentional Bomb

The bomber is aware of the photo being taken, and goes out of their way to ruin the photo. The give away is the eye-contact and face-pulling.

The Unintentional Bomb

Where someone or something is in the background of the shot and is either ‘caught out’, walking past or just far more entertaining than what the photo is supposed to be of.

The Foreground Bomb

Where the bomber jumps in front of the group shot last second

The Animal Bomb

Where an animal is the one doing the bombing

The ‘What Happens Next?’ Bomb

The person in the foreground of the shot has no idea what is happening behind them

Sorry Renee..

The Celeb-Bomb

More and more of these are popping up. It’s funny if they get bombed, but even funnier when they are doing the bombing.

Probably the first celeb-bomb documented – go Sir Paul!

Jake Gyllenhaal owning Uma.

Tom DeLong

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

Shaun White bombs his own segment

Zac Efron bombs his girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens

Michael Cera seems to be a serial offender…

The Vom-Bomb

Not for the weak-stomached. Pics speak for themselves… and then some

You getting an idea of what real photo bombs are?

For example, this IS a photo bomb

This is NOT a photo bomb. (Funny, yes, but is the subject of the photo)

This is

This isn’t. (Pulling a face when everyone smiles is not bombing)

This is my favourite bomb. Ever.

Yes, I get bombed too

Channel [V]’s Kyle Linahan

Here are some photo bombs you’ve sent in to me

Sneaky Bomb

Side Bomber

Rude Bomber
