Thought for Support

I present for FBi radio – a community radio station in Sydney that focuses on new music, arts and culture. It’s all completely volunteer work (yes, I actually SACRIFICE my early mornings 1am-6am fortnightly) so no one gets paid to rock the airwaves.

It’s because of this that we annually ask for support from the listeners of Sydney to back their fav station by giving the gift that runs the world (in a material way) – moolah ($$).

From now until the 31st of October 2010 you can sign up to be a supporter – or renew your membership!

Why should I support?

It’s called ‘Good Karma’. Karma is the mystic law of receiving good energy when you do good deeds. What goes around comes around. Do good and good will be done unto you…
Therefore it’s good karma to support FBi. We’re independent, not for profit, and supporting Sydney’s creatives. Not only will your support help keep our station running, but your good deed spreads to all the bands and artists that FBi supports too.

INSTANT KARMA = INSTANT REWARDS: Good deeds do not go unnoticed, and the karmic value of supporting FBi can be measured, not just in warm fuzzy feelings, but also in PRIZES.
We’ll be handing out plenty of instant karma during the drive. Major prizes, show prizes, the week of post-drive thank you events, plus the knowledge that you are keeping us air.

What are these prizes?

Thanks to Hotel School

Thanks to Altec Lansing

Thanks to Red Balloon

Thanks to Graz Eyewear

Thanks to East Street Studios

Thanks to Spank Records

What will I get out of it?

The most important thing you’ll get is your FBi supporter card – your passport to prizes and discounts galore. Every week we give away thousands of dollars worth of goodies on air, in our enews and online. Only supporters are eligible
Plus as a current supporter, you’re automatically in the major prize draw for future supporter drives.

How much will it cost?
Not as much as you may think. Just sacrifice $7 each month from credit card or direct debit. Other options for concession and you passionate peeps. If you LOVE us you can make a tax deductible donation (if over $2)! How is that for good karma?

I need more of an incentive…
Here you go!
NEW MUSIC :: FBi broadcasts the best local and overseas music. It’s our mission is to bring you brand new music and emerging sounds. Stuff you won’t get anywhere else. We play over 4000 hours of Aus music every year. Love what you hear on FBi? Here’s your chance to invest in it.

VOLUNTEER-RUN :: We run on the blood and sweat of hundreds of volunteers, working their arses off behind the scenes. Joining FBi is about making a statement in support of independent radio and being part of a community of people dedicated to Sydney music, arts and culture.

LISTENER FUNDED :: FBi is listener-funded radio. It costs around $3000 a day to run the station. We don’t get government dollars to pay the bills. And we don’t want to stuff every hour full of ads from commercial sponsors. That’s why we need you.

NOT FOR PROFIT :: FBi’s not here to make a profit, we’re just here to make damn good radio. Every cent you give helps keep FBi on air.

SPONSORSHIP + SUPPORTERSHIP :: Money from FBi’s sponsorship announcements goes right back into paying the bills, but it only covers about half of what need each year. That’s why we need you. You’re the other half of the equation.

SUPPORTER BENEFITS :: Signing up as a supporter of FBi gives you access to all our competitions. Every day we give away CDs, tickets to movies, theatre shows & gigs, and loads of other great stuff. You can easily win back the cost of your membership with just one on-air prize!

REMEMBER SAVE FBi? :: Last year we ran into major trouble because of the global financial crisis. Sponsors slashed their spending and supporters tightened their belts. We’re out of the woods now thanks to you. But our costs are ongoing. It takes around $3000 a day to run the station. This is why we need your support on an ongoing basis.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? :: What do we do with the money we get from supporters and sponsorship?
– Run training programs
– Cover transmission costs, fees to license music, bills and rent
– Pay off the start-up loans used to establish FBi, build studios and buy infrastructure
– Maintain our studio equipment
Plus heaps more. Radio is an expensive business. We need your help to keep doing this stuff.

I’ll be manning the phones this Thursday and Friday afternoon – I’d love your support to keep such a great station alive and running!

A usual occurrence

Them: “What’s your name?”
Me: “Maude”
“Yes, (you dickhead), I was named after a place where people are buried”
“Oh well what’s your name?”
“Ohhhh Maude. Is that your real name?”
“You’re going to change it, aren’t you?”

Big apologies for not blogging much this last week. I’ve just moved house, and the new place doesn’t have internet (insert profanities). It’s all been pretty hectic!
Stay tuned – more blogs will be flying at your face in no time

Shape Magazine feature!

Shape Magazine Australia have asked what it is that I’m listening to/watching/playing this month.

This is it!

Aussie’s answer to Lupe/Kanye/Kid Cudi?

You couldn’t have come up with this bag of tricks if you tried.

Meet Miracle. He’s an 18 year old Hip Hop artist & Skater from Ghana, Africa that lives in Sydney and is cut from the same mold of Lupe, Kanye, Kid Cudi & Chiddy Bang.

His first track is “Better Dayz” which samples Pete Murray (and not ironically) was produced by Miracle himself for his HSC, which he’s doing at the moment. Because finishing school is hard enough, right?

This kid is going to be huge, it’s not your average Aussie hip hop, he has real flow and the video has like 8000 views from nothing but word of mouth.

What do you think? Has he got what it takes?

There’s so many good ones! Keep them coming! Thanks to TheMonkeyBoy

Open Sesame!

Here we have Sesame Street – YET AGAIN – combining my favourite things. SVU parody anyone? And yes, the CHUNG CHUNG noise can get a little tedious! Watch til the end

Fan of Desperate Housewives? Then enjoy the cheeky double-untundres!

“You’re soil looks so…. dry”

This is probably the funniest one yet… 30 ROCK!

Monster Spice

Previously, I’ve put up a few Sesame Street vids. I’ve also put up the ads for Old Spice.

Story of my life

Star Wars to go

Hopefully by now, you’ve established that I’m addicted to Star Wars. In fact, I’m quite fanatical. So imagine my immense delight stumbling through the web pages of Starwars.com and ThinkGeek.com - in my top fav sites to visit. But instead of reading background stories, and lusting over early sketches of Boba-Fett, I have found instant love with the online SHOP.

So I’ll sporadically be posting the most giddying items I discover for purchase. Get those credit cards out, it’s time to be broke. Even more so. But broke in style.

“You don’t need to know my expiration date….” (swift wave of the hand)

“No, I’m not using a Jedi mind trick on you…” (more frantic hand waving)

Today, these are the three most lust-worthy items. I will choose, one, two or all of these items to purchase.

First up is the Star Wars COOKBOOK.

Cantina Chow

Even Wookiees need to eat. And when they do, there is nothing they like more than Wookiee Cookies. Despite what you might be thinking, Wookiee Cookies are not, in fact, hairy. They are, however, delicious, and just one of the many recipes your find in The Star Wars Cookbook. You’ll also learn how to make Jedi Juice Bars, Dark Side Salsa, Boba Fett-Uccine, and loads more.

Why just sit at home eating boring food, when you can follow the instructions in this recipe book and make that same food but with super-outer-galactic names? Anyone who tells you not to play with your food is a dummy – playing is what makes food fun. Especially when you can make a Jedi Juice Bar and then fly it into your mouth-hangar. The Star Wars Cookbook is loaded with different types of inter-galactic recipes: drinks, breakfasts, main courses, desserts, and more. Age is no issue when it comes to Star Wars cuisine – kids as well as adults will have a great time with this book. Whether you drove to your first Star Wars flick or just had your fifth birthday, there’s no reason you can’t whip up some Crazy Cantina Chili at near light speed.

The Star Wars Cookbook

  • Learn how to make out of this world treats.
  • Features
    • 60 wipe clean pages with over 25 recipes
    • Recipes include: Greedo’s Burritos, Twin Sun Toast, Tusken Raider Taters, and more!
    • Concealed wire-O binding – so each page lays flat while you cook
    • Includes 13 foil stickers to label your completed creations

It’s a mere $15.99 not including P&H. EEEEEEIIIIHH!!!

NEXT is the Stormtrooper IPhone case. Recently I’ve dropped my IPhone. I watched in horror as it slipped out of my opened jacket pocket, and plummeted onto the hard concrete below. There was a sickening thud/crack, like that of a skull being crushed. It resonated in my ears over and over as I looked down only to see it’s once perfect screen shattered deep. I tried to use it to see if it still worked – which it does – and managed to imbed a tiny shard of glass deep into my thumb. Ouchies. TIME FOR A CASE!

And what better case than that of the Stormtrooper. The Darth Vader case is equally appealing (“You do not want to ignore the call of the Dark Lord”) so am torn. But the sleek white of the Stormies are seducing me. For only $29.95 who could say no?

LAST but not least, is the Jedi Bath Robe.

After a lengthy shower filled with mandatory hygiene procedures, there would be nothing more fulfilling that stepping into the Jedi Bath Robe. Just looking at the pic makes you want it oh so bad. Jedi’s need to dry themselves off too! After a little searching around – I found that StarWars.com’s shop was cheaper than ThinkGeek’s by $30. Hello savings.

So which is it?

What should I get?

May the debt be with me.

Assassin’s Overload!

After playing hours of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood – Multiplayer on PS3 yesterday, I’m so giddy that there’s no of this franchise to come.

Pics of what you can expect:

Are two dee two

I love Star Wars may more than the next person. Being the proud owner of Star Wars: Trivial Pursuit and 3 lightsabres are just the tip of the iceberg. But these two items are tempting me to push beyond my love for the franchise into something bordering obsessively dangerous.

Introducing: The R2D2 andriod phone and the R2D2 robot!

Yes, you can now buy an android smart phone…..designed on R2D2

If that isn’t enough for you, feel free to BUY THE DRIOD ITSELF!

Yes, hop in and ride around as R2D2 with an in-built motor, LED lights and sound effects! Money well spent if you ask me…

Bert & Ernie Gangsta Rap

Ahh these two were the epitome of ying and yang when I was a kid. Ernie with his wired dreams and bubble baths with the rubber duckie – Bert with his undying love and obsession for checkers and pigeons.

That all changed when you mix an editing program with a very bored person.

The result is genius and entertaining!

It was only a matter of time before they combined two of the most epic home-shopping buys of all time

Law and Order SVU’s take on gamers

I LOVE SVU. It really is one of my favourite shows. Olivia and Elliot rule.

But in THIS episode, the writers feel that they need to incorporate this new age thing called ‘gaming’ into their scripts. And if you ask me, they’ve nailed it. I both look and sound like that when I game for over 10 hours a day.

Those guys must have the most advanced graphics cards. And the way their controllers had… what were they? Cords? WOW.

Red Dead Relentless

Lots of red. Oh, and very dead.
