Welcome to the world of Maude Garrett

About me

G’DAY!

My name is Maude Garrett, and I co-host the Hot30 Countdown with Matty Acton each weeknight from 7.30pm nationally, I’m a TV presenter (currently co-hosting Save Point TV on OneHD), geek blogger and columnist, writer, MC, professional photobomber, music appreciator, epic prankster and video games addict.

My break in television was in 2005 after auditioning for Channel [V]‘s presenter search called ‘Fresh Meat’. Out of nearly 2500 hopefuls around Australia, I made it into the top 4 where I battled it out with the others on air in Sydney. Although I didn’t win, I managed to land a job on Nickelodeon hosting their popular local production called ‘Camp Orange’.

Fasst forward to 2010, I’ve hosted four Camp Oranges (all Logie and Astra nominated – no biggie), three Orange Carpets for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards (interviewing names like Zac Efron, Good Charlotte, The Veronicas, et al) Sarvo (Nickelodeon’s afternoon show) & ‘The Go Show’ (Nickelodeon’s music show) with my best friend Kyle Linahan, hosted Channel 9′s tech savvy reality games show called ‘The Pursuit’, hosting TVC’s for numerous new release video games on subscription television, write my very own gaming column for Dolly magazine, and host on the Hot30 Countdown each weeknight!

Pheeeeeyyouwff!

About me:

LIKES:

  • Video Games – Favourite of all time is Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo 64. Nothing has beaten this so far
  • Reading – I’ll easy read a book a week
  • Rice Bubbles
  • Finding hilarious youtube videos – look up Leeroy Jenkins!
  • Soaking up the sun (whilst slip slop slapping) at the beach
  • English Breakfast tea with milk and honey
  • Bright nail polish
  • Laughing loudly and uncontrollably
  • Courteous drivers
  • My gorgeous dog, Bella

DISLIKES:

  • Having to use a walk-through when I get so stuck in a game I want to cry (we all get to that point, right?)
  • Mushroom, beetroot, seafood, pork, ham, bacon… yeah I’m a fussy eater and I dislike that too
  • People who talk loudly during movies (though I find it ok to chat myself…hypocrite! )
  • Horror movies – all of them
  • People who trip over while walking and pretend it never happened… hello! I saw you!
  • Bad spelling. We’re in the spell check era and a red squiggly line tells you you’re wrong, so no excuse!

To contact me regarding hostings, MCing, questions, ideas, anything really, feel free to email my agency – hstride@profiletalent.com.au and they’ll be sure to pass on the query.

Below are some of my previous biographies – enjoy

Maude Garrett is a unique on-air personality; a stunning tom-boy who is equally adored by girls and boys. As one half of Nickelodeon’s on-air duo, together with co-host Kyle Linahan she commands the screen with her dynamic combination of glamour and goofiness. Maude presents a winning balance of quirkiness and glamour. Girls love her ever-changing nail colours, while boys love that she can burp louder than them.

In 2009, Maude’s hosting duties will see her return for the fourth time as the presenter of Nick’s long-running adventure series CAMP ORANGE. Maude’s role as Camp Counsellor for the teams will be as their motivator and friend whilst also putting them through their paces in some of the toughest challenges ever seen at Camp Orange!

In 2008, Maude interviewed stars live on the orange carpet and backstage in the frenzied atmosphere of Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards. She visited the US-sets of Nick shows such as iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants; and interviewed an intimidating range of celebrities from Jack Black and Brendan Fraser to Chris Rock and Ben Stiller.

Maude first came to TV fame as a competitor on Channel V’s Search for a V-J competition in 2005. It was this experience and her desire to work in front of the cameras that led to auditioning as host for Nickelodeon’s second season of Camp Orange. In Camp Orange: Slimey Hollow Maude proved to kids all over Australia her love of camping out, enjoying mess, delving into the dunny of destiny and generally being an all round Nick Camper.

Equally happy to receive a pie to the face or a bucket-load of slime in the interest of entertaining the demanding kid audience, Maude Garrett is one of Nickelodeon’s most popular hosts ever.

In addition to kids’ TV one of Maude’s greatest passions is music. Maude loves singing and started playing percussion instruments at the age of 9.

This next one is by Jo Harris:

Maude Garrett is not a magician – although, one could be forgiven for thinking so. There is no rabbit; there is no hat, just Garrett’s uncanny ability to turn nothing into something, everywhere she goes.

This 22 year old blonde-bombshell is pay TV’s ‘it’ girl. Bolshy and determined, Maude Garrett is living her very own dream, and that of young women everywhere. Currently the face of the Nickelodeon channel, Garrett hosts the very successful ‘Camp Orange’, an ASTRA award-winning, Logie-nominated children’s reality TV series. Nothing short of a world away from her days working the retail industry in Queensland’s capital.

Born in Darwin in 1986, Garrett was raised in the suburbs of Brisbane. At the tender age of 19, whilst hanging bikini’s in one of Brisbane’s premier surf stores, Maude Garrett realised that life was passing her by. Without hesitation, Garrett entered the massive, nationwide audition ‘Fresh Meat’, a competition run by Channel V designed to expose undiscovered talent and provide a spotlight for their first foray into television.

Maude Garrett was just one of the 2,500 hopefuls who put themselves on the line in an effort to wow the judges. Amongst stiff competition and under enormous pressure to prove her worth, Garrett successfully maneuvered herself into the finals, becoming one of the last four contestants standing. Although she failed to win the competition, Garrett was undeterred, and remarkably, filled with confidence and hope. Steadfast .With the click of her bright coloured fingernails, Maude Garrett’s magic show was about to unfold before her very eyes.

Stealing into the Sydney offices of Nickelodeon’s General Manager, Garret made a beeline for the pile of post-it notes on the desk and scribbled a note stating her name and a request for a job, stuck it in the middle of the computer screen and disappeared without a trace. Within weeks Garrett was back in Sydney with a full-time job, as a children’s television presenter, squarely in her lap!

Garrett is a beguiling character. She comes with a motley mix of interests and passions that are so diverse they almost seem disparate. From Star Trek to Lego, from playing the Glockenspiel to supporting the nation’s most pressing environmental concerns, Maude Garrett clearly has an unquenchable taste for life.

What is so uniquely refreshing about this talented young go-getter is that her eyes are set firmly on the future. Not content with her current list of accomplishments, Garrett is continually striving for more and has no qualms at trying her hand at anything that may cross her path. ‘I have a bit of a why-not attitude with everything’, states Garrett, ‘I’ll give anything a go’.

There is no doubt that this smart, sassy, self-confessed ‘chic-geek’ has got the goods. She has recently enrolled in a writing course at the Sydney Writer’s Centre in the hope that developing her feature writing ability will further enhance her skill set, adding another string to her already unique bow. In this fickle industry of television, Maude Garrett is one smart cookie. Barely out of her teens, Garrett exudes a maturity beyond her years and her fellow generation-yer’s need take note. Neither capes nor wands required here.  Maude Garrett, it seems, has the Midas touch.

    Hi Maude,
Thought I’d just let you know you’re awesome !
Any fan of gaming and STAR WARS is alright in my books.
I find that you being on the take 30 countdown makes the show engaging so good job.
Since you’re a gamer and a STAR WARS fan I thought I’d recommend Star Wars The Old Republic to you.
It’s a really awesome Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game which is due for release in march here in Aus, but if you order it from EB Games they can import a copy for you, I’ve got like the worst internet ever but the game still works fine, which I was amazed by.
If you decide to pick the game up you should join a european server, i’ve been playing on one called baccas blade, the server usually has no more than about 80 when I’m on so there isn’t any lag.
The game takes lplace thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader and the old republic has been invaded by the ancient sith empire, a war started and ended in the sacking of coruscant (similar to that in revenge of the sith) a treaty between the republic and the sith is signed and a sort of cold war begins and you start in the middle of this cold war.
    It is really,really awesome!
So after that random geek attack, I’ll be going now, hope you continue your awesomeness, glad to have a fellow gamer on TV who is fine with being themselves , bye!

“Time passes, people move. Like a river’s flow, it never ends. A childish mind will turn to noble ambition. Young love will become deep affection. The clear water’s surface reflects growth. Now listen to the Serenade of water to reflect upon yourself.”
