What. A. Babe.
SHE CAN DJ PRESENTS MINX – MIX COMPILATION RELEASED MARCH 2 AND NATIONAL CLUB TOUR
September 14, 2011 is not a date Minx (aka Rachel Phillips) will forget anytime soon. At a spectacular awards night at Sydney’s exclusive Ivy nightclub, the Sydney-born house DJ was crowned the winner of EMI’s inaugural She Can DJ competition.
Now, Minx reveals her first EMI release on Friday March 2, ‘She Can DJ Presents Minx’ – a massive 78 minute big-room house music mix compilation, featuring many of the biggest dance music names from around the globe, several of who Minx has already played alongside. From Swedish House Mafia to Avicci via Calvin Harris and deadmau5 through to Madeon….Minx leaves no gaps on the dancefloor; showcasing why she’s Australia’s No.1 female house music DJ!
Minx has also been working on two of her own original works and collaborations, ‘Chances’ (Instrumental Version) by Minx and Nordean & Minx Ft. Erik Hecht, ‘You & I’; both of which are included on ‘She Can DJ Presents Minx’ album.
Minx couldn’t be more ecstatic about the release, “To be releasing a compilation that contains some of the best dance music on the planet from many of my favourite artists and to have this mix also include my own original works, is a dream come true”.
To celebrate the release of ‘She Can DJ Presents Minx’, Minx will hit the club circuit for a national tour kicking off on Saturday February 25 at The Weekend, Melbourne playing back to back shows through til mid May. If you’re yet to experience Minx on the decks, now is the time! Current list of shows below, with more to be announced soon….
As a jet-setting DJ of seven years, Onelove’s first female resident DJ and a Quiksilver For Women ambassador, Minx’s hands were already pretty full, but as She Can DJ’s leading lady, life’s hit a whole new level as one of Australia’s most in-demand DJs.
Before the win had even sunk in, she was en route to the dance music Mecca of Ibiza to play the sets of her life at landmark clubs like Pacha, Nassau Beach Club and Café Mambo during the island’s infamous closing week.
Arriving home in 2011, she hit the ground running, playing some of the hottest nights of the social calendar, including EMI’s ARIA Awards after-party, Cleo Magazine’s Swimsuit Party, MTV’s Summer Party and WHO Weekly’s Sexiest People Party, before performing at the Sydney and Adelaide Stereosonic shows.
Minx had played Stereosonic four times before, but never like this. In Sydney, she opened the main arena in ANZ Stadium (officially Australia’s largest dance party), but it was in her previous hometown of Adelaide that delivered the biggest highlight. With several International DJs running late, she was asked to play before Swedish superstar Avicii to a packed main stage. “I don’t think I stopped smiling for the rest of the weekend” she gushes.
Come 2012 and there’s no sign of taking her foot off the accelerator. If anything, she’s hitting full throttle. One thing’s obvious, this red-hot star is ready to shine in a whole new light.

Minx
So proud of my good gal pal Rach Phillips aka DJ MINX who’s in the top 10 for a huge DJ competition ‘She Can DJ’. Wishing her the best of luck, it’s announced next Wednesday night at 12pm!
“I think female DJs got a touch of a raw deal in the past, but I don’t think they do now,” says rising star Rachel Phillips. “Over the last couple of years, there’s been a lot more females coming into the scene and it’s just now accepted. Females are an integral part of DJing and dance music now.” As one of the leading ladies in the scene, Minx has been breaking down walls since she started spinning in 2004 while living in Adelaide. A lover of dance music since day dot, she’d practise her DJing for fun in her local club during the week before it opened. “It was just a hobby,” she says. “I never wanted to do it as a job, never thought you could actually do it as a career. It’s just something I love and naturally moved into.” She started playing sets around town and two years, her thrilling skills caught the ears and eyes of powerhouse promoters OneLove, who signed her up as their first ever female resident to play their club nights around the country. The highlights kept coming a year later when she made her maiden voyage overseas to play for Ministry Of Sound in Mykonos in the Greek Islands, supporting none other than house sensations Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso (two thirds of Swedish House Mafia). “Being two of my idols, it was a real ‘pinch me’ kind of moments,” Minx recalls happily. Those moments continued to come, playing after headliner Deadmau5 at the Stereosonic Festival in 2009 to thousands of fans and doing it all over again the next year following Tiesto. “That night was ridiculous!” says Rachel. “Playing after the world’s number one DJ who plays trance is always going to be a hard act to follow, so it was definitely my most nerve-wracking but amazing experience ever.” Relocating to Sydney in 2009, Minx mixed the Onelove Sound Machine compilation alongside DJs Ajax and Bart B More and took it on tour around the country for three months. She also clocked up more festivals including Good Vibrations, Future Music Festival, We Love Sounds, Parklife and V Festival and hosted Nova Radio’s Saturday night dance show in Adelaide from November 2007 to April 2009. And in recognition of her trailblazing skills, she’s also been chosen as one of ten ambassadors in the world for the Quicksilver For Women brand, an initiative set up to support women in creative fields and inspire the younger generation. With more overseas opportunities beckoning and her first track (a collaboration with producer Nordean) just about to drop. Minx’s future is looking bright.

Thought for Support
I present for FBi radio – a community radio station in Sydney that focuses on new music, arts and culture. It’s all completely volunteer work (yes, I actually SACRIFICE my early mornings 1am-6am fortnightly) so no one gets paid to rock the airwaves.
It’s because of this that we annually ask for support from the listeners of Sydney to back their fav station by giving the gift that runs the world (in a material way) – moolah ($$).
From now until the 31st of October 2010 you can sign up to be a supporter – or renew your membership!
Why should I support?
It’s called ‘Good Karma’. Karma is the mystic law of receiving good energy when you do good deeds. What goes around comes around. Do good and good will be done unto you…
Therefore it’s good karma to support FBi. We’re independent, not for profit, and supporting Sydney’s creatives. Not only will your support help keep our station running, but your good deed spreads to all the bands and artists that FBi supports too.
INSTANT KARMA = INSTANT REWARDS: Good deeds do not go unnoticed, and the karmic value of supporting FBi can be measured, not just in warm fuzzy feelings, but also in PRIZES.
We’ll be handing out plenty of instant karma during the drive. Major prizes, show prizes, the week of post-drive thank you events, plus the knowledge that you are keeping us air.
What are these prizes?
MAJOR PRIZES
- 2 NIGHTS AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL RIALTO MELBOURNE, WITH FLIGHTS
- 2 NIGHTS AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL SYDNEY
Thanks to Hotel School

Thanks to Altec Lansing

1 PAIR OF CUSTOMISED GRAZ SUNNIES

BAND MAJOR PRIZE: A 5 DAY EP RECORDING PACK

SUNSET MAJOR PRIZE: TRAKTOR PRO PACK

What will I get out of it?
THE FBi SUPPORTER CARD
The most important thing you’ll get is your FBi supporter card – your passport to prizes and discounts galore. Every week we give away thousands of dollars worth of goodies on air, in our enews and online. Only supporters are eligible
Plus as a current supporter, you’re automatically in the major prize draw for future supporter drives.
How much will it cost?
Not as much as you may think. Just sacrifice $7 each month from credit card or direct debit. Other options for concession and you passionate peeps. If you LOVE us you can make a tax deductible donation (if over $2)! How is that for good karma?
I need more of an incentive…
Here you go!
NEW MUSIC :: FBi broadcasts the best local and overseas music. It’s our mission is to bring you brand new music and emerging sounds. Stuff you won’t get anywhere else. We play over 4000 hours of Aus music every year. Love what you hear on FBi? Here’s your chance to invest in it.
VOLUNTEER-RUN :: We run on the blood and sweat of hundreds of volunteers, working their arses off behind the scenes. Joining FBi is about making a statement in support of independent radio and being part of a community of people dedicated to Sydney music, arts and culture.
LISTENER FUNDED :: FBi is listener-funded radio. It costs around $3000 a day to run the station. We don’t get government dollars to pay the bills. And we don’t want to stuff every hour full of ads from commercial sponsors. That’s why we need you.
NOT FOR PROFIT :: FBi’s not here to make a profit, we’re just here to make damn good radio. Every cent you give helps keep FBi on air.
SPONSORSHIP + SUPPORTERSHIP :: Money from FBi’s sponsorship announcements goes right back into paying the bills, but it only covers about half of what need each year. That’s why we need you. You’re the other half of the equation.
SUPPORTER BENEFITS :: Signing up as a supporter of FBi gives you access to all our competitions. Every day we give away CDs, tickets to movies, theatre shows & gigs, and loads of other great stuff. You can easily win back the cost of your membership with just one on-air prize!
REMEMBER SAVE FBi? :: Last year we ran into major trouble because of the global financial crisis. Sponsors slashed their spending and supporters tightened their belts. We’re out of the woods now thanks to you. But our costs are ongoing. It takes around $3000 a day to run the station. This is why we need your support on an ongoing basis.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? :: What do we do with the money we get from supporters and sponsorship?
- Run training programs
- Cover transmission costs, fees to license music, bills and rent
- Pay off the start-up loans used to establish FBi, build studios and buy infrastructure
- Maintain our studio equipment
Plus heaps more. Radio is an expensive business. We need your help to keep doing this stuff.
I’ll be manning the phones this Thursday and Friday afternoon – I’d love your support to keep such a great station alive and running!
